Small town charm

Duck is the most walkable of all northern Outer Banks towns. This quaint village has a much more sophisticated feeling than the population of approximately 400 year-round residents would lead you to believe. The area had long been inhabited, but became an incorporated town in 2002. Duck has few public beach access points and little public parking that is close to the beach. For these reasons, the beaches of Duck feel more private than most other Outer Banks communities.

Duck boasts clothing boutiques with unique offerings, excellent restaurants, and breathtaking views. Many of the restaurants in Duck overlook the Currituck Sound, offering spectacular sunset views over dinner and drinks. Most of the shopping and dining options are in a compact downtown area, easy for pedestrians to navigate. Duck is truly a shopper’s dream with small independent establishments. Many of the shops carry distinctive items that cannot be found anywhere else.

Duck features a weekly morning yoga class on the town green and then, for evening entertainment, a weekly music event also on the town green. Duck provides visitors with one of the best ways to view the Currituck Sound with the town’s boardwalk park. This boardwalk winds along the sound for almost a mile and passes through clusters of shops, open water views, and maritime forests.
