Attractions for Everyone

Currituck County is a mostly rural community, with the northern end around Moyock growing as a suburban, commuter-friendly place for many who work in the Norfolk/ Virginia Beach metro area. The county, which is over 40 miles in length, is the main gateway to the Outer Banks for visitors coming from northern destinations. Along this route to the beaches of the Outer Banks, visitors encounter farms and fields with views of water in the distance.

Along Highway 168 from Virginia to the Wright Memorial Bridge, which crosses over to the Outer Banks, visitors often make time to stop at the farm markets dotted along the scenic route. These local farm markets offer fresh vegetables, fruits, unique baked goods, locally made products and homemade ice cream. Mainland Currituck is a golfer’s dream with five pristine golf courses. For those looking for some excitement, the H2OBX Waterpark is fun for everyone.

Currituck’s restaurants offer a variety of fresh, local cuisine from seafood to the region’s famous vinegar-based, eastern North Carolina barbecue. Currituck’s unique eateries are a must stop along the way for many visitors who travel to the Outer Banks year after year. Visitors will want to make time to shop at the unique businesses along the way. These shops offer coastal furniture, apparel, jewelry, antiques, locally made products and much more. Currituck County is also home to distinguished and award-winning Sanctuary Vineyard winery.
